About the Northern Lights Orchestra

Venues The Northern Lights Orchestra is a performing ensemble dedicated to bringing fine popular orchestral music to communities throughout the North Country. Now in its tenth season, the NLO has entertained audiences from Canton to Watertown, Morristown to Henderson Harbor, playing in venues as diverse as concert halls, museums, and outdoor pavilions. The NLO particularly strives to play in the region’s smaller communities that rarely have the opportunity to host live orchestral concerts.

Repertoire The orchestra’s repertoire ranges from classical music by composers such as Vivaldi and Mozart to less common programs such as traditional Celtic tunes, movie music, and music by North Country composers. The programs reflect the orchestra’s mission of featuring music of broad appeal, music that will interest seasoned concertgoers and newcomers alike. The NLO sometimes includes less conventional instruments, such as guitar, electric bass, and keyboard.

Members Northern Lights Orchestra members include professional musicians, music teachers, accomplished amateurs, and talented students from the tri-county region of Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence counties.

Conductor NLO Conductor and Music Director Christian Hosmer has conducted, taught, and performed music in Northern New York for more than twenty years. An alumnus of the Manhattan, Juilliard, and Crane Schools of Music, he also serves on the faculties of St. Lawrence University and Watertown’s Trillium Music Center.
